Outdoor Tile Self Levelling Pedestals 55 to 75mm – Pack of 20
These adjustable pedestals are essentially a short plastic foot which supports our 20mm outdoor tiles on all four corners. Originally pedestals were developed for the roofing industry as a means of laying slabs when converting a flat roof, terrace or balcony where under tile access is required.
Why use them?
They have a waterproof membrane along with service points for air conditions, enabling you to build a raised floor level such as a terrace or patio which still allows for rainwater drainage as well as access to pipes and cables.
Advantages to pedestals
• The pedestals provide a ‘suspended’ system, enabling easy future access to drainage, cables and pipes whilst also promoting good airflow and drainage.
• Pedestals are more cost effective when creating a raised terrace (no cost for concrete)
• Ideal for use on slopes and uneven land as the pedestals are height adjustable – easier to achieve a level patio (reduces cost on groundwork).
• The pedestal heads have 4 spacers which create a 3mm gap between the slabs, enabling rainwater to quickly drain away underneath (No mortar, grout, mechanical fixings or adhesive required).
• Pedestals are quick to install and can be lain in the rain and frost, unlike a wet lay.
Where can they be used?
They can be used on most stable surfaces such as concrete, slabs or tarmac but not on unprepared ground such as grass, soil or sand.
What can they hold?
The pedestals have undergone a crush resistance test and can hold up to 1 tonne. They are suitable for all of our 20mm outdoor tiles. They can also be used with 32mm pressed concrete slabs but not with poured concrete slabs.
How many will I need?
As a guide the following may be used on a patio between 20m² – 40m²
• 600x600mm slab with one pedestal per corner will require 3.5 to 4 pedestals per m²
• If a central pedestal is used for the slab then the amount per m² will increase to between 6.5 to 7 pedestals.
Self Levelling Pedestals vs Standard Pedestals
Self-levelling pedestals - have a ‘floating’ head, meaning the head rises and falls to counter a certain amount or irregularities in the base surface. Ideal for sloping areas and use on well compacted hard core bases which are not perfectly level.
Standard pedestals - have a fixed head, meaning effectively that the top surface of the slab will mirror the ground surface. Ideal for level areas.
You may also need
200mm Square Plate – to be used around a perimeter of an installation to provide support right up to the edge. Without this, any downward pressure on the slab could cause it to kick up.
Additional 60mm extension – provides an instant increase in the overall height of the pedestal 50/80mm (can only be used on standard pedestals not suitable for self-levelling pedestals)
